Pakistan’s Tech Exports Reach $4.2 Billion in First 11 Months of FY2026

Pakistan’s technology exports increased 20 percent year-on-year to $4.2 billion during the first 11 months of fiscal year 2026, according to Finance Adviser Khurram Schehzad.

Pakistan’s technology sector recorded strong export growth during the first 11 months of fiscal year 2026, with technology-related exports reaching $4.2 billion, according to figures shared by Finance Adviser Khurram Schehzad.

The reported increase represents a 20 percent year-on-year rise, highlighting the growing contribution of IT and digital services to Pakistan’s export earnings.

The figures come as the country continues to pursue export-led growth and broader economic reforms following a period of pressure on foreign-exchange reserves and the balance of payments.

IT Exports Rise in May

According to Schehzad, Pakistan recorded $373 million in technology exports in May 2026, representing a 13 percent increase compared with the same month a year earlier.

Based on the pace of growth, the finance adviser said technology exports could exceed $4.5 billion for the full fiscal year 2026, compared with the $4.2 billion recorded during the first 11 months.

The government has identified the technology sector as an important contributor to export growth, particularly as Pakistan seeks to expand its presence in international digital markets.

Freelancers Generate $1.6 Billion

Pakistan’s freelance workforce also recorded significant growth during the period.

According to figures shared by the finance adviser, Pakistani freelancers generated a record $1.6 billion in export earnings during the first 11 months of FY2026, an increase of approximately 80 percent year-on-year.

Freelancer earnings reached around $169 million in May 2026, with the government reporting an annual increase of more than 87 percent for the month.

The growth reflects the expanding role of Pakistani professionals providing software development, creative services and other digital work to international clients.

Technology Becomes a Larger Export Driver

Pakistan’s IT exports have been increasing over the past several years. Official figures cited by Arab News show that IT exports reached a record $3.8 billion during 2024–25.

The sector continued its upward trend during the current fiscal year, with technology exports increasing by 19 percent year-on-year during the first five months from July through November, according to the figures reported by Arab News.

The government is seeking to build on this momentum through policies aimed at supporting technology businesses, digital services and export-oriented companies.

Focus on Global Digital Markets

The expansion of Pakistan’s technology exports is closely connected to the country’s large pool of IT professionals, software developers, freelancers and digital-service providers.

International demand for software development, creative services and other technology-related work has created opportunities for Pakistani companies and independent professionals to serve clients outside the country.

The government has also highlighted the sector’s potential to generate higher-value employment and attract investment into Pakistan’s digital economy.

Growth Outlook

With technology exports already reaching $4.2 billion during the first 11 months of FY2026, the sector is expected to remain an important part of Pakistan’s export strategy.

The government has indicated that continued policy support and investment could help sustain growth and expand Pakistan’s presence in global technology markets.

If the sector maintains its current pace, Pakistan could cross the $4.5 billion technology-export mark for FY2026, according to the finance adviser’s projection.
